Discovering Groceries

Well I've finally found the best way to grocery shop with a 2 and a 3 year old. It's called "childcare." I usually go shopping with the kids and put them in the childcare center while I spend a peaceful hour checking labels and prices and chatting with the butcher in the meat department. Usually when I return home from a shopping trip with kids, I am unloading them, their balloons, their coloring papers, their half-eaten lunch and we are taking off shoes, keeping Magnum the dog from running out the front door, washing hands, etc. Then comes the unloading the car and unpacking the food into the kitchen. By that time the kids are long gone into their rooms or outside to play, and I of course, am not thrilled about the task ahead of me.
However on this day I went shopping alone because Jonathan had some time off. Upon returning home, I was met with such jubilation at my return and the goodies that I had with me. The kids began scouring the bags on the floor and taking out each item to examine them. Esmerelda was so thrilled with each thing she found, you would have thought she was at a candy store. "Wow mom, look at this!" They were so funny, and it was much more fun to unload with all the helpers.

This is so sweet! I have the cutest Little Golden Book called "We Help Mommy" and the kids help put the groceries away... it's a nice fantasy but I've never been able to make it happen. Although they do help bring the bags in from the car.
